I didn’t realise that the illuminations don’t start until September. 1879 saw them light up for the first time, when they were described as ‘Autumn Sunshine’ (although I doubt in Victorian times that they had lampposts covered with yellow “M”s and lights strung across the road that spelled ‘I’m lovin’ it’). I find it a bit odd that they don’t have them on for the summer season – it seems a bit of a shame. Perhaps it helps extend the season? Note to self: book a return trip sometime between August 30th and November 10th.
