As Orwell discovered, there is no longer a pier in Wigan, but had there been this is where it would have been. I have to say, I was rather impressed with Wigan – chic cafes, smart shops and a dapper dockside development. Of the dark satanic mills, there is now little evidence as they have all been smartly refurbished. I don’t think Orwell would recognise the Wigan of today. Definitely worth a re-visit!
