Recent reads about Vienna in the dark days have disappointed, so I’ve changed tack. Jelinek’s book about the last 30 days before the annexation of Austria (1938) is packed with information that not only builds the political landscape but colours it with interesting details and photos. V. helpful for us aspiring novelists.
