020314 The Russian metteur en scene

_DSC0035_LRSomewhere behind this spectacle lurks a metteur en scene (‘A producer of a play (or opera, etc.); a director of a film’ OED). It might be the chap on the far right or it might even be someone wearing a Darth Vader helmet, as seen to the right of the ladies. A fun couple of hours at the inaptly named Maslenitsa. Inapt as Maslenitsa is the Russian Sun Festival ‘a celebration of the end of winter chills’ and, sadly, the winter chills are far from over. As I sit here listening to the rain hammering on the skylight, I am tempted to write “it was a dark and stormy night”, for indeed it is.

Day #62 of a 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by theĀ OED word of the day.
