050315 Oxpecker

My Natural History photography ability knows no bounds … and so today’s word was a cakewalk. An “oxpecker” is: ‘Either of two African birds which habitually cling to the backs of cattle and other large mammals to feed on ticks and other parasites, the yellow-billed Buphagus africanus and the red-billed B. erythrorhynchus (family Sturnidae or, in some classifications, Buphagidae)’, (OED). At least, I think this is an oxpecker – wasn’t easy to tell at that distance and I only had a 50mm lens with me.

Day #64 of the second 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by the OED word of the day.
