250115 Weapons of Pseudery

I had the whisky and haggis ready for today’s word as I thought it might be something Burns related, so had to do a bit of re-thinking when I saw it was “pseudery” (‘Intellectual or social pretension or affectation; pseudo-intellectual speech, writing, debate, etc.’, OED). Maybe there’s a connection, but I’m struggling to see it at the moment. Perhaps the Scots feel that sassenachs wearing kilts, addressing the haggis and consuming vats of malt whisky is a tad on the pretentious side …
