200114 Love – the feel-bad factor

200114_LRWith Christmas now a dim and distant memory, the wheels of commercialism are already grinding towards Valentine’s Day. I am very lucky that I have people I love and people who love me (at least I think they do …). But there are so many people who aren’t as lucky, and I reckon hearts, coronets and pink probably induce a feel-bad factor – feel-bad is today’s word of the day from the OED. The definition given is ‘That induces a feeling of unhappiness or discontentment; characterized by such a feeling; gloomy, pessimistic, down-beat. Cf. feel-good adj.’ (OED). Although the adjective has connotations of economic pessimism, I have decided to be diplomatic and stick with the pinks. I did take some shots in one area of London that sent a feel-bad shudder down my spine, but I wouldn’t wish to offend any of the residents by pointing this out.

Day #20 of a 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by the OED word of the day.
