170114 A Perfunctory Service

170114_LRSome of you will know that I am a bit of a Costa fan, but I’m afraid, after stopping for coffee on the motorway this morning, I need to revisit this fanship. The service included a lot of attitude and not much efficiency, although this didn’t bother me too much, since it gave me the ideal opportunity to shoot my word of the day – perfunctory, meaning: ‘Of an action, deed, work, etc.: done merely as a matter of duty, form, or routine, and so without interest, care, or enthusiasm; carried out with a minimum of effort; formulaic, mechanical; superficial, trivial’ (OED). The reason I am somewhat dischuffed with Costa, lies in the cups. Santa cups are barely tolerable in December, but I’m afraid Santa cups in January are totally unacceptable.

Day #17 of a 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by theĀ OED word of the day.
