And todays word comes from Hawaii: “aa” meaning ‘A kind of volcanic lava with a rough, jagged surface covered with loose clinkers. Freq. attrib., esp. in aa lava. Contrasted with pahoehoe’, (OED). Oh how I’d like to be in Hawaii right now, but I’m not. However, the good news is that the gas in the office has finally been connected so I now have heating (which I could turn up to 30 and pretend I’m in Hawaii) and, more importantly, hot water.
