“Hondle” means ‘intr. In Jewish usage: to haggle, bargain. Also trans. with direct speech as object. Cf. handel v.’ (OED). I was in the wrong part of town for Jewish usage, but I did find these hubble-bubbles on Forset St (W1). I suspect, at some time, there’s been a bit of hondling going on whilst these were smoked, just not necessarily of the Jewish kind.
